‘Country’s literacy rate 61%’

FROM PARLIAMENT: Literacy rate of the country is currently 61 percent, according to the Bangladesh Statistics Bureau survey of 2015.

Primary and mass education minister Mostafizur Rahman disclosed the information in the parliament in reply to a question of Dhaka-1 constituency MP Begum Salma Islam on Thursday.

The minister further said that 97.98 percent children have been enrolled in primary schools and drop out rate has reduced to 20.04 percent.

According to him, some 79.06 percent students complete their education cycle as well.

‘The government has taken several initiatives to make enrollment rate of students higher, reduce drop out rate, increase attendance in schools and ensure the completion their study cycle’, the minister added.
