Tk 49,009cr for education proposed

DHAKA: A total of Tk 49,009 crore has been proposed for the education sector, including primary and mass education, in the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2016-17.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith made the proposal before the parliament while placing the budget on Thursday (June 2).

In his budget speech, he said, “We have been working towards implementing the plan for extending primary education up to class VIII by 2018. Grades VI and VII have already been opened in 760 primary schools.”

About pre-primary education the minister said “We have a plan to recruit another 3,000 teachers and provide them with training.”

“In FY 2016-17 budget, a total of Tk 200 crore will be allocated for the purpose of renovating dilapidated schools. A policy, to this end, will be finalized within two months,” the minister added.

From the total amount of Tk 49,009 crore, Ministry of Education will get TK 26,847 crore and the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education would get Tk 22,162 crore.
