NSU VC seeks govt assistance to resist militancy

DHAKA: North South University Vice Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Atikul Islam sought assistance to the government to resist militancy.

He made the remark in a view exchange meeting on law order and public safety at ‘Krishibid Institution Bangladesh’ in capital on Sunday (July 17). 

Professor Dr Atikul Islam said, “Names of NSU teachers and students came up in the list of militants and I am not denying this. But I urge the government and all others to help us on tackling militancy.”

The meeting was organized by the ministries for Home and Education. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal presided over the meeting and Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid attended the meeting as chief guest.

However, Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque, Director General (DG) of RAB Benajir Ahmed, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia, several private universities’ officials and guardians were also present at the meeting.
