11 injured as DU, DMC students clash

DHAKA: As many as 11 people including a journalist and a police member were injured in a clash between the students of Dhaka University (DU) and Dhaka Medical College (DMC) in Bakshibazar area Tuesday night (January 16). 

DMC’s Dr Fazle Rabbi Hall unit BCL General Secretary Sheikh Md Al Amin, DU’s Salimullah Muslim Hall unit BCL Joint General Secretary Abdul Kaffar and Environment Affairs Secretary Wahab Bin Riaz are among the injured.  

Abdul Latif, cameraperson of a private TV station, and a police member were reportedly injured in the clash. Latif was allegedly beaten up by the BCL activists of DU and his camera was snatched away. 

The students of DU and DMC engaged in the clash following an altercation over sitting in a restaurant in Bakshibazar, at the night. BCL activists of DU SM Hall and DMC Fazle Rabbi Hall also joined the clash.   

Brandishing iron rods and sticks, the two groups of DU and DMC chased each other and exchanged brick chunks in Bakshibazar area.

Later, police came to the scene and bring the situation under control.
