Quota demo leaders give govt ultimatum to publish gazette The press briefing in front of DU central library

DHAKA UNIVERSITY: Quota reformist student leaders said they will wage a fresh movement if the government doesn’t issue the gazette on cancelling quota system in government jobs by April.

They arranged a press briefing before the central library of Dhaka University (DU), at 11:00am on Thursday (April 26).

“By rule, the gazette is supposed to publish within two-three days of the announcement from the prime minister at the parliament. But, the process is delaying as she is busy”

“But, the student society of Bangladesh will again go on another movement in the next month if the gazette isn’t published by this month,” said Faruq Hossain, joint-convener of the quota reform movement.

The student leaders also demanded to withdraw all the cases filed against unnamed persons over the quota reform movement and in a bid to ‘harass the students’, they said.

However, on April 11, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told the national parliament that the public service government jobs won’t have any types of quota.

The premier came up with the announcement in wake of the students’ protests countrywide for a few consecutive days, to press home their demand of reforming the quota system in government jobs.
