DHAKA: Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said steps will be taken after in looking into the reasons behind the fall of pass rate in HSC, equivalent examinations. 

The Education minister also complained that he is being criticized over this year’s low pass rate where as he had been criticized in the past over high pass rate.

Nahid made the remarks at a press conference about the HSC result publication in secretariat on Thursday (July 19).  
    
The results of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and its equivalent examinations 2018 were published Thursday (July 19) with an average pass percentage of 66.64. Last year, the pass rate was 68.91 percent which is 2.27 per cent higher than this year.

A total of 29,262 students scored GPA 5 among around 13,11,457 appeared in the exams.

When asked about the 34 percent failing students, the minister said, “We hope that one day all students will pass the examination but we are not there yet. There was a time when pass rate was way lower but it has improved and eventually it will improve. We are being criticized for the slight fall of pass rate this year but we had been criticized in past for higher pass rate. So what is our fault then?”

Nahid also said that authority will inquire into the decline of pass rate and take necessary action to improve the situation next time.
