Symbolic protests in western suburbs of Melbourne

Anondodhara, the school of music and arts for the Bangladeshi descendent children in Australia, organized a symbolic protest on Thursday (Aug 3) to show solidarity for the ongoing logical demands by the students in Bangladesh to have safe roads to save lives.

The event was oragnised in the evening of 3rd August with the residents of western suburbs in Melbourne. Community members including children and their parents participated to support the non-political social movement.

The event was coordinated by Dr Aziz Rahman, a Public Health Physician and a Community Leader. Dr Rahman explained the objective of such protests to the young children at the beginning of the program. In his brief speech, he mentioned, “We strongly support the spirits of the young students in Bangladesh, who showcased few examples of detecting the irregularities related to road safety violations. However, we do not support any sort of violation and the students need to understand that it will take time to expect any change of irregularities.”

On behalf of Anondodhara, the event was addressed by the Principal Sadia Hamid Nijhum, General Secretary Mohammad Mujib Shishir, Dance Teacher Syeda Saera and the President Farzana Mahfuz Shimki. All of them supported the logical demands of road safety in Bangladesh. Among the participants, Jannatul Ferdous Nouzula, Nafiul Islam and Mita Chowdhury shared their views and highly appreciated such initiative by Anondodhara in Melbourne.

They also advised the authorities in Bangladesh to ensure safety without having any consequence on the studies of those students. There was an observation of one-minute silence in the remembrance of the departed souls of those two students, which flamed out today’s protests and recitation of national anthem. The organiser thanked the participants and the forum was opened for socialisation.
