BARGUNA: A class-III student was killed and five other children injured as the ceiling of a primary school building had collapsed in Taltali upazila of Barguna Saturday (April 6).

The deceased was identified as Mansura, 8, daughter of one Nazir Hossain in Pochakoralia union of the upazila. 

The injured are—Ruma Akter, Sadia, Rozma, Shahin and Ismail Hossain.

They were rushed to Amtoli upazila health complex.

The fatalities happened when a concrete grade beam of Chotobogi PK Govt Primary School building collapsed during a class, around 12:30pm.

The school’s head mistress Shakerin Jahan confirmed the matter to Banglanews. 

The single-storey building of three rooms was constructed in 2002.
A crack developed on a grade beam within one year of construction, she added.

The injured are hospitalized and out of danger, said Amtoli Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Bashar.

Necessary measures have been taken, in this regard, said Barguna district primary education officer MM Mizanur Rahman.
