BSMRSTU closed, students asked to vacate hall

GOPALGANJ: Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU) declared a 15-day holiday starting from Sunday (September 21) on the occasion of Durga Puja amid the ongoing protests for resignation of Vice Chancellor professor Dr Khondaker Nasir.

Students have been asked to leave all six halls asked by 10am on Saturday, according to an office order, signed by the university Registrar professor Dr Md Nur Uddin Ahmed.

The university was supposed to go on a five-day vacation on the occasion of puja from October 4. But the authorities said leave was extended from September 22 to October 3 with stipulated vacation on the occasion of upcoming Puja.

The vacation has been extended to avert any unwanted incident and keep fair environment of education on the campus, said Dr Md Nuruddin Ahmed, registrar of the university.

On the other hand, students are staging fast unto death on Saturday for third day to press their one-point demand for resignation of Vice Chancellor professor Dr Khondaker Nasir.

The students staged protest rally at the university’s administrative building and brought out procession on the campus to press their one-point demand on September 19. Later, they declared fast unto death that afternoon.

Around 20 students were injured as outsiders allegedly attacked them while they were demonstrating outside the campus around 11:00am.
