Three Poems // Orundoti Priti Fakhrul

1. The Lion above the door

The Lion above the door,
seeking to figure out what's more,
one here and one there,
there could be one anywhere......

A door to go through,
a view to be seen,
it caalls out my name;
just to be set free,

It is as if it is a hero,
waiting to save the day.
It is a hero,
waiting to persuade.

The Lion above the door,
a ferocious, fierce fur;
one here and one there,
there could be a Lion everywhere...

2. An ode to fesh

Och fesh supper,
haw salty ye ur.

Hoo yer caller Haddock melts in mah gob,
an' yer braw Salmon falls apart ah Coods sob.

Hoo yer vinegar's tangy,
yoor perfect for onie kin'ay lassie.

Yoo've bin aroond longer than ah've bin,
yoo've seen mair than ah've seen.

When yer gowden, crispy skin is alright,
'at it cruches every single bite.

Yer Scotland's pride an' joy
ye make a'fawk say fesh ahoy.

Och fesh supper,
hoo brammer ye ur.

3. An unforgettable dream

I look in the mirror,
And my figure starts to get clearer.
I reach to wipe it,
It is like a book flipping a page,
It is a portal taking me to faded dream of each age...

I look around and I turn,
Just to be surrounded.
A bunch of students playing games,
But the fun ends when everyone goes away.
I look behind me and I see different toys,
And children are filled with different joys.

I open up to see a show,
And I see that the students have grown.
One with a mask and the other with a past,
But not everyone can surpass.
The Egyptian's walking around,
And their dead bodies lying on the ground,

I look through the door,
And see everyone working.
The bell screamed as everyone was awakening.

The jotters, pencils, and rubbers straightening,
But can a dark, deep door do so much more.

I look back to all the years before,
And I see everything laid out on the floor.
The next stage was more nerve racking than the last,
But does this mean I can't pass?

Tests, essays, and exams,
Is this the end or is there more?

I look through the mirror,
And the memories start to get more clearer.
I reach to wipe it,
Only to fall through it.
It is like a book flipping the page,
It is a portal taking me to the very next stage...
