After a promising start at the box office, surpassing the opening day collections of critically acclaimed films like Laapataa Ladies and Madgaon Express, the Rajkummar Rao-starrer Srikanth had a bumper opening weekend. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film raked in Rs 5.50 crore on Sunday alone, bringing its total domestic collection to Rs 11.95 crore.
The film recorded an overall 25.59 percent Hindi occupancy on Sunday, with the evening shows witnessing the highest turnout at 36.42 percent. The morning show saw 14.58 percent, the night shows saw 22.87 percent, and the afternoon shows saw a respectable footfall at 28.50 percent.
The film opened at the box office on Friday with Rs 2.25 crore, nearly doubling its collection on Saturday with Rs 4.26 crore, and delivering an even stronger performance on Sunday. Srikanth is one of the low-budget films whose makers are relying on the solid content of the film and expecting a good return on investment, akin to last year’s sleeper hit 12th Fail, also a biopic. Srikanth, however, has outperformed 12th Fail thus far. While 12th Fail minted Rs 6.83 crore within the three days of its release, Srikanth has collected Rs 11.95 crore in the same timeframe.
Srikanth had the maximum screens, 809, in the Delhi NCR region, with a 22.25 percent occupancy in that area. Mumbai outperformed NCR with 501 screens and over 30 percent occupancy.
Given that Srikanth is based on the life of visually impaired industrialist Srikanth Bolla, who hails from Andhra Pradesh, the film also performed well in Hyderabad, with a 27.50 percent occupancy across 148 screens.
In Srikanth, Rajkummar essays the role of the titular industrialist, Srikanth Bolla, who pursued his dreams despite his visual impairment, ultimately founding Bollant Industries. The film, directed by Tushar Hiranandani, also features Jyothika, Alaya F, Sharad Kelkar, and Jameel Khan in key roles.
