DHAKA: Legendary athlete Milkha Singh’s biopic ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ was the big winner on Friday night at the 59th annual Filmfare awards.

The inspiring film bagged maximum awards including Best film, best director award for Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and the Best actor award for the multi-talented Farhan Akhtar who literally transformed himself to play Milkha Singh on the big screen.

2013 belonged to Deepika Padukone and there were no two opinions on who would take the best actress trophy home.

Padukone won it for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram leela’.

Veteran actress Supriya Pathak, who played Deepika’s mother in the film, won the Best supporting actress award. While Best supporting actor award went to Nawazuddin Siddiqui for his endearing performance in ‘The Lunchbox’.

The film, which was blatantly ignored by the jury while sending India’s entry to Oscars in 2013, got the Filmfare nod on Friday night.

Ritesh Batra, the director of the film, won two direction awards for his film.

The soulful music of ‘Aashiqui 2’ was adjudged as the best as it fetched its composers Jeet Ganguly, Mithoon and Ankit Tiwari the Best Music award beating veterans like Shankar-Ehsan-Loy and AR Rahman who were nominated in the same category.

Best Playback Singer (Male) went to Arijit Singh was ‘Tum Hi Ho’ from ‘Aashiqui’ while Monali Thakur got Best Playback Singer (Female) for ‘Sawaar Loon’ from ‘Lootera’.

Southern superstar Dhanush was awarded the Best Debut (male) award for his charismatic performance in ‘Raanjhanaa’ while Vani Kapoor got the Best Debut (female) award for ‘Shuddh Desi Romance’.

Actress Tanuja received the Lifetime Achievement award. Proud daughters Kajol and Tanishaa cheered the loudest and the actress went up the stage to receive the award from Amitabh Bachchan.

The show was hosted by Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor and had performances by Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit and Katrina Kaif, reports ibnlive.in.com.
