Ms. Kawshiki Nasser, President Dhaka Fashion Week, said, “in a world torn by Wars and famines, designers are the artists who have the vision to imagine a different world …  A world that celebrates diversity and respect choices… This year’s Dhaka Fashion Week is all about reminding you that we all have a right to choose.  Mr. Animesh Kundu, Managing Director Otobi, Ms. Kat Burton, Country Head, AFP and Selim Omarao Khan were present as special guests while Abdus Salam.

The evening started with Mariamah by Roxana Salam. Mariamah, displayed an enviable collection of abaya’s in different shades of Gold, blue and brown taking inspiration from different traditions like Chinese, Arab, Indian and continental. Mariamah’s collection proved Contrary to the popular belief,  it’s the more you conceal ……the more you leave for the imagination of the audience, the more beautiful you look… the more desirable you become….

Next came the hip, the chick and the post millennium collection of Mahmudul Hasan Mukul. He was followed by Mansha and Fortuna. Then came the strikingly elegant collection of Saymbara by Shirin Karim.

Taking inspiration from nature Shirin Karim of Sayambara created a awestruck collection. Apart from trees, flower, butterflies, shrubs and bushes Designer her designs also included Geometrical designs.  She has a weakness for ‘kalka motife’.

In her finest and one of the most eyes catching collections of sarees Shirin enslaved the audience within seconds. Muslin, jamdani, silk, cotton, andi silk, andi cotton are the materials that are being used  in which she had done embroidery, block, handwork.  Block with nakshi katha, jamdani  katwar and dakka  defies  her creative genious. Apart from usage of sequin stich she also has an arsenal of base colour red, blue, yellow, green, and nature colours and designs to make you completely spell bound.  Traditional and trendy designs are both at her mastery.

Sadakalo presented a collection of Maslin, half silk and silk Saris and silk and cotton Panjabis. The white , black and ash moslins have embroideries, block and eplick works on them and the silks have works done with fril and laces.

To bring back the golden glory days of Jute… Designer Uttam Gosh has created a unique clothing and accessories line with jute.  The refreshingly surprising collection of suits, western outfits, maslins and jamdani saris made with a blending of jute fiber was one of the highlights of this year’s fashion week.

Everybody is talking about Jatra these days. And they showed last night why.  The combination of Jatra’s ethnic collection celebrating diversity along with the performances of DHOLIS from monipur, sylhet, created  the magic realism of Jatra.

Finally, in an attempt to imagine a world that celebrates diversity and respect choices the grand finale of the Dhaka Fashion Week 2010 was a  Performance of Movements directed  by Fashion Show director Kawshiki Nasser.  The Installation Art on the Move, was based on the theme of Dhaka Fashion Week 2010, a celebration of choices.
