DHAKA: A Dhaka court has framed charge against singer Arfin Rumey arrested in a dowry case of Tk 20 lakh filed by his first wife Lamia Islam Ananya.

Judge of Dhaka Women and Children Repression (Prevention) Tribunal 4 Arifur Rahman framed the charge on Sunday noon.

The singer claimed himself innocent when the charge read out at the court.

Rumey’s wife Ananya was present at the court at that time.

Date for witness deposition was scheduled on September 11.

Court staff (peshkar) Mohammad Forkan Ali said though the lawyers of both sides claimed that they had reconciled but there was no information in the court record regarding this.

In the case, Ananya complained that Rumey married US expatriate Qamrunnesa in 2012 and left country with his second wife for the US.

He stopped the maintaining cost of his first wife and son. On the other hand, after returning to Bangladesh, he regularly tortured Ananya by claiming a dowry of Tk 20 lakh.
