Akram Khan’s ‘Desh’ on Sep 19

DHAKA: ‘Desh’, a dance piece directed by reputable British-Bangladeshi choreographer and performer Akram Khan, will be presented at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in city’s Segun Bagicha area.

Akram Khan along with his troupe will perform at the show at 7:00pm on September 19.

The British Council and Bengal Foundation will jointly organize the event.

The performance will be followed by an interview session with Akram Khan.

There will also be a live outdoor screening of the performance, along with the workshops and panel discussions.

According to the organizers, ‘Desh’, which means ‘Homeland’ in Bangla, upholds the multiple tales of land, nation, resistance and convergence into the body and voice of one man trying to find his balance in an unstable world.

The central theme of Akram Khan’s choreography presents an identity crisis born from the juxtaposition of a collective past and the personal present.

The 80-minute piece ‘Desh’ highlights the internal quandary of a vulnerable individual struggling to find his sense of place.

No entry pass will be needed at the program but due to the limited numbers of seats, the organizers will arrange them on first come first served basis.
