DHAKA: Bangladesh and Iran signed the Cultural Exchange Program (CEP).

Visiting Bangladesh cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor and his Iranian counterpart Ali Jannati signed the program on behalf of their respective parties in Tehran on Wednesday (May 13).

Bangladesh and Iran had a cultural exchange program treaty since 1977. Under the treaty, the two countries also signed the treaty for 2004-2008.

Bangladesh took the initiative to revive the program as the treaty was expired.

Under the treaty, the two countries will work together for the next four years (2015-2018) in organizing book fairs, seminars, symposiums, art exhibitions and arranging visits of cultural activists.

Bangladesh ambassador to Iran Khandaker Abdus Sattar was also present in the signing ceremony.

However, Noor left the country for Iran on May 12 to attend the 28th Tehran International Book Fair.

Deputy secretary M Mofidur Rahman accompanied the minister in the tour.

The minister will return home on May 22 after attending 3rd International inter-cultural dialogue in Azerbaijan.

Cultural ministry public relations official (PRO) Mollah Ahmed Kutubuddin confirmed the matter to banglanews.
