Palme d’or to be announced Monday

CANNES (FRANCE): During the past ten-day journey riding on Pambus I have noticed that the most French people are very courteous and polite particularly to the elderly people.

They usually make seat for the elders if there is no vacant seat. While entering the festival Palace Hall I noticed such an example.

As there was no rush I forgot the queue at the entrance. A Frenchman was in front of me. I was a bit ashamed and attempted to go behind but the front man allowed me to go first.

Still one day left for the festival. The organizers have made arrangements for guide to every place. One artist was playing guitar in front of Agora, the dinning place of the film stars. The artist Aaron Lordson was playing Soul and Rhythm and Blues which were heard from far away through sound boxes. The people were giving claps after every play.

I was roaming here and there along with a Bangladeshi journalist and discussing who is going to win the coveted gold palm this year. The newspaper Grazia was being distributed free among the people available around the festival place.

On the other hand, the critics have become divided over issue that whether film is entertainment or an art. Some are painting it as the influence of culture. Another group is applying politics and heavenly theories.

For this reason, a big chunk of American and British journalists were in favor of awarding Palme d’or or Golden Palm to ‘Carrol’ based on lesbian and performed by Cate Blanchett.

But the many inhabitants of mainland of Europe were in favor of Italian film ‘My Mother’. In this film, the personal and professional conflict of a filmmaker has been projected in a subtle way. Italian magazine Panorama has commented that this film is very much entitled to win the Golden Palm.

America versus European Taste

Another two claimants in the festival are Italian maker Paolo Sorrentino’s ‘Youth’ and Hungarian newcomer László Nemes’ ‘Son of Saul’. The European journalists think that the American films are made with the aim of winning Golden Palm.

In the competition, the host country can create a dazzle by it’s ‘The Major of a Man’. So, it is now matter of a debate whether the Cannes award will be retained by France or any other else.

The answer will be available after few hours. Then the curtain of 68th Cannes film festival will fall.

Ultimately, the whole matter will be decided by the panel of juries. Nine-member panel of juries include Joel and Ethan may vote for ‘Sicario’.

The film was made in the background of the operations of CIA against drug on the border of Mexico. Because the Oscar award winner film ‘No country for old men’ was produced at the same place of Mexico. The actor of that film Josh Brolin is acting in ‘Sicario’.

One cannot ignore the film ‘The Lobster’, which was made on the fantasy how a man becomes animal if he does not get a good companion. One of juries Guillermo can vote for Italian film ‘The Tale of the Tales’. Some of the juries are for Guillermo’s ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’ and some are for ‘Youth’ and ‘Carole’ or ‘Mountains May Apart’.

It is difficult to assume who is going to win Golden Palm as the weather of Cannes city can not be forecast. All the decisions of the juries are unbelievable. An anti-Bush feature film ‘Nine/Eleven’ won Palme d’or title. Let us wait and see who finally wins this time!
