Films on peace, tolerance at IUB

DHAKA: Four independent films on the theme of peace and tolerance in Bangladesh were screened at a film festival at the permanent campus of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) at Bashundhara residential area in city.

Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) and University of California, San Diego (UCSD) jointly hosted the film festival on June 4 (Thursday).

Four films are:- The Unknown, Language for Peace, Realization and Lokkho-In Pursuit of Peace -- were screened. The films were produced by the students of IUB, Chittagong University (CU), Rajshahi University (RU) and American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) in the year 2014.

Professor Robert Hooper of the UCSD served as tutor and mentor of the filmmakers via two-way interactive academic video conferencing between UCSD-IUB for 15 weeks.

Students from IUB, CU, RU and AIUB made the films under a special research project titled “The UCSD-IUB Special Academic Research Project 2014.”



Renowned media personality and former Director General of Bangladesh Television M Hamid was the moderator of the program.

Rashed Chowdhury, Chairman, Board of Trustees, IUB, attended the event as chief guest, while, Vice Chancellor (VC) of IUB Prof M Omar Rahman and visiting Assistant Dean of the School of Global Policy and Strategy of the UCSD Teresa Olcomandy were special guests of honor.

Wallied Shirzoi, Project Manager of the Policy Design and Evaluation Lab (PDEL) of UCSD delivered the welcome speech.

Among others, Professor Zakir Hossain Raju, Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences of IUB and Dr GM Shahidul Alam, Head of Department of Media and Communication, IUB and the student filmmakers spoke on the occasion.
