DHAKA: Bangladesh embassy in Tashkent with the cooperation of UNESCO, organized a seminar on Bangladesh fashion design in the embassy chancery on Wednesday.

The program was attended by the guests including the spouses of the ambassadors of embassies in Tashkent, UN agencies representatives, local fashion designers, media and cultural activists, journalists and embassy officials.

Bibi Russell, UNESCO artist for peace was chief guest at the seminar.

In the welcoming speech, Bangladesh ambassador Mosud Mannan, ndc discussed about the purpose of organizing this seminar and noted importance of cultural collaboration between two countries in modern spheres like fashion, clothing and textile.

He said that this seminar will help many local fashion designers who are already established and for young starters to learn from Bibi Russell’s success history, and inspire them to seek new opportunities and creative ideas.

In her speech, head of UNESCO office in Tashkent, Krista Pikkat mentioned about the importance of developing fashion and textile in Uzbekistan and thanked Bibi Russell for visiting again Uzbekistan.

She said that Bibi Russell will also participate in a Festival of Traditional Textile ‘Atlas Bayrami’ (Holiday of Atlas) in Margilan, Fergana on 10-12 September 2015.

A short video screening of Bibi Russell’s interview by famous author Kelsey Timmerman was also presented for the audience at the seminar.

Bibi Russell started with sharing her story from the very beginning. She talked about her childhood, her life in Bangladesh. She has worked hard and become the first student from Bangladesh to study in London College of Fashion.

She shared what inspired her to start modeling and then shift to fashion designing.

Her speech was followed by slide show with her fashion collection at the background.

The question-answer session was enriched with the vibrant participation of other cultural activists, journalists.

After the session, the fashion and clothing items produced by Bibi Productions was displayed for the audience. Fabrics, scarf made of silk and cotton, jewelry, boxes and bags made with recycled materials grabbed a huge interest and attention of the audience.
