DHAKA: The most popular author, writer, dramatist and filmmaker of the country, Humayun Ahmed’s 67th Birthday was marked across the country on Friday.

Different cultural organisations and TV channels chalked out different events marking the birthday of one of the prominent figures of Bangla literature.

To mark the day, a mural of Humayun Ahmed was unveiled this morning at Nuhash Palli in Gazipur, a place where the writer built a retreat unlike any other.

Meher Afroz Shaon, widow of the eminent filmmaker, unveiled the mural, said Nuhash Palli manager Saiful Islam Bulbul.

Family members, fans and staff of Nuhash Palli celebrated the day in befitting manner.

Different television channels aired various programs to commemorate the legendary figure of Bengali literature.

Humayun Ahmed was born on 13 November 1948 and died on 19 May 2012 for cancer in a Hospital of the USA.

Born in Mymensingh, he studied on chemistry at the University of Dhaka and later taught there.

The legendary writer had a meteoric rise in Bangla literature. His first novel, Nondito Noroke, had published while he was still a student at Dhaka University. The novel gained huge popularity among thousands of readers of Bangladesh. His second novel, Shankhanil Karagar, was also equally successful.

He was a good television dramatist, drama maker and film maker. His first television drama was Ei Shob Din Ratri, followed by Bohubrihi, Ayomoy, Kothao Keu Nei and many others.

Shonkhonil Karagar is the first film made by him. Later, he also filmed Aguner Parashmoni, Srabon megher din, Dui Duari, Shyamol Chhaya and other notable films. ‘Ghetuputra Kamola’ was the last film directed by Humayun Ahmed.

Humayun Ahmed turned into the most popular writer of Bengali literature of his time. He went on to become one of the most prolific writers in Bengali literature, with around 150 novels to his credit.
