DHAKA: Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi and Press Club of India on Saturday jointly arranged the screening of ‘Journey to Justice’, a documentary by eminent writer and journalist Shahriar Kabir.

Journalists and academics watched the hour-long presentation of the film held at Press Club of India, New Delhi, says a press release on Sunday (November 27).

PCI president Gautam Lahiri welcomed Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Syed Muazzem Ali, who spoke as the chief guest, and Shahriar Kabir, who took questions from the audience after the screening.

The film tells the grim tale of the genocide the Pakistani occupation forces carried out during Bangladesh’s nine-month War of Liberation in 1971. It was one of the most brutal and well-planned genocides of the 20th century that claimed three million innocent civilians. Over 200,000 women were subjected to rape and tortures, while one million people were forces to flee to neighboring India.

The also focused on the trial of the Bengali collaborators of Pakistan on charges of committing crimes against humanity by special tribunals set up by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government in 2010. Several war crimes accused have been executed and several others are awaiting gallows.

Syed Muazzem Ali said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had promised to the nation that the war criminals will be brought to justice and she has kept her commitment. The trial will continue until the last of the criminals are meted out justice, he said.

ShahriarKabir said Jamaat-e-Islami party and its leaders have been the main culprits in the Bangladesh genocide and they are still working against the spirit and values of the liberation war.
