‘Hope Bangladeshi movies to go abroad’

DHAKA: Country’s one of the influential filmmakers Mostofa Sorwar Farooki hoped that Bangladeshi movies would go abroad in near future. They would be screened for foreign viewers and would earn acclaim.

Farooki, who took part at a banglanews24.com live adda Thursday evening, expressed his optimism while answering to a question.

‘I hope our moviegoers will come to cinema halls and I also hope that our movies will go to Cannes, Venice, Berlin and so on as country’s official selections.’

He also said that the country needs a film institute as well as a national film policy to strength the industry.

‘Financing is very important for the development of filmmaking. The existing scenario regarding film production, distribution and promotion is simply bleak in our country. A national film policy is need urgently. We need a film institute to train the younger and aspiring filmmakers,’ Farooki commented.

To a question, Farooki answered, ‘I make film upholding my own experiences or presenting the experiences of the people my surroundings’.

He further said, ‘My childhood memories play a pivotal role in depicting a character in my works’.

While talking about the definition of good movies, the filmmaker said, ‘though it is a relative term, but I believe the movies that influence the viewers can be called good movies’.

About his personal life, Farooki said, ‘Mashallah, my marital life with actress Tisha is doing well. I am happy and hope Tisha is happy too’.

Revealing his upcoming films, Farooki shortly said that works of ‘Pipra Bidya’ is done and shooting of ‘Dubo Shahar’ would hopefully start in December.
