SATKHIRA: Having Saimon Sadik and Mahiya Mahi in lead roles, Mostafizur Rahman Manik directed ‘Jannat’ was scheduled to screen at Sangeeta Cinema Hall from Friday (September 14).

But the hall authority moved from the decision at the last moment and replaced ‘Jannat’ by Jeet-starrer ‘Sultan’, following complaints from the local residents accusing ‘Jannat’ may hurt religious sentiments. 

“The film was supposed to screen here during Eid. But, later we decided to run it from Sept 14. We even have run publicity followed by,” Sangeeta Cinema Hall owner Abdul Huq told Banglanews.

“But, the screening of Jannat has been suspended upon request from the police-administration”

“Consequently, we are facing financial loss,” he added.

“Locals raised objections regarding name of the film—Jannat. They surfaced allegations that it may hurt religious sentiments if had something ‘obscene’,” Satkhira Superintendent of Police (SP) Sazzadur Rahman told Banglanews.

Director Manik took to Facebook for disclosing the obstruction his film has faced in Satkhira. 

The film Jannat has been released in 15 theatres across the country on Friday (Sept 14), in fourth week since its release on Eid-ul-Azha.

Sudeepto Sayeed Khan wrote the story of Jannat. Dialogue and screenplay were written by Asad Jaman.
