DHAKA: People from all walks of life including artists, filmmakers and crews flocked to Central Shaheed Minar and Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) on Saturday (Dec 22) to pay last respects to celebrated filmmaker Amjad Hossain.

The ‘Golapi Ekhon Train-e’ famed director breathed his last at Bumrungrad International Hospital in Bangkok on the evening of Dec 14.

His body was flown to Dhaka on Friday (Dec 21) evening.

The body was taken to Shaheed Minar premise, around 11:30am Saturday (Dec 22).

“Amjad Hossain served over 60 years. He used to think for the country in every moment,” said theatre personality Mamunur Rashid.

“He will live forever in a vast area of Bangla culture. His memory will be preserved,” said another theatre personality Hasan Imam. 

Actress Rokeya Prachi, actor-director Salauddin Lavlu and Amjad Hossain’s son Sohel Arman, among others, were present.

The body was then moved to the premise of ATN Bangla in Karwan Bazar and later to the BFDC around 1pm.

The veteran’s colleagues, fellows and followers showed deep respects to him by placing flowers and in teardrops, at his longtime workplace.

A namaj-e-janaja was also held.  

Faruk, Alamgir, Ilias Kanchan, Riaz, Ferdous, Zayed Khan, Symon Sadik, Tarana Halim, Bobita, Suchonda, Chompa, ATM Shamsuzzaman, Delwar Jahan Jhantu, Bodiul Alam Khokon, Sohanur Rahman Shohan, Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar, among others, were there. 

Afterwards, the body was taken to Channel i premise; from where it will be taken to Amjad Hossain’s ancestral village in Jamalpur district for the burial.
