Film actor Babar passes away

DHAKA: Popular film actor for negative roles Khalilur Rahman Babar passed away at a city hospital on Monday (August 26) morning. He was 67.

He breathed his last at the Square Hospital in the capital at 9am, Organizational Secretary of the Bangladesh Film Directors Association Kabirul Islam Rana told Banglanews.

Babar had been ill for a long time. He was hospitalized last Thursday (August 22) after a heart attack. His condition started to deteriorate gradually. He died on Monday morning while undergoing treatment, Rana added.

Babar's first namaz-e janaza will be held on Monday in the premises of the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC). The body will then be taken to his Kalabagan home. 

After the second janaza, the filmstar will be buried in the intellectuals’ graveyard in Mirpur. 

Babar debuted as actor in Amjad Hossain's 'Banglar Mukh'. But then he introduced himself as a prolific player of negative roles through Jahirul Haque's film 'Rongbaz.'

He has acted in more than three hundred films and also directed and produced some including 'Doyaban', 'Daagi' etc. 

Earlier on June 9 due to spread of gangrene Babar’s left leg from the knee had to be cut off at the Comfort Hospital, Green Road in the city. 

For a long time he has been absent from screen due to illness. He has been suffering from diabetes. 

On April 30 he was admitted to the hospital and then doctors suggested him surgery. Doctors surgically removed three of his toes on the left leg on that occasion. Then he was released and went back home. But then again as his condition deteriorated he was admitted to the hospital again on June 9.
