23rd death anniv of Salman Shah being marked

DHAKA: ‘Salman Shah’, one of the most iconic figures to step foot in the industry, has remained as popular as he was in his lifetime though 23 years have been passed since his death. 

This Dhallywood superstar’s career and life was cut short when he left this world on September 6, 1996.

On that day, the charismatic actor's lifeless body was found hanging from the ceiling of his bedroom. The exact cause of his death still remains a mystery, with many calling it a murder.

But, Salman- a pair of words that is synonymous to ‘hero’ to the Bangladeshi film fans, still now captured the hearts of the fans as well as the viewers of all classes through his stellar performance.

To mark Salman’s 23rd death anniversary, Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association (BFAA) has come up with special initiative, which includes offering special prayers and reciting from the holy Quran.

The event will take place in the study room of BFAA after Asr prayer on Friday (September 6).

Fans of actor Salman Shah are set to form a human chain for demanding trial of Salman Shah’s killers in front of the National Museum in Shahbagh in the capital city.

In remembrance of Salman Shah, Channel i is scheduled to host a commemorative show ‘Kotha Bartay’ through its Facebook page at 5pm on Friday. At the programme, eminent filmmaker Sohanur Rahman Sohan and Salman Shah shared their stories which were recorded several years ago.  

Salman’s first appearance in a major role was in ‘Keyamat Thekey Keyamat’ released in 1993. This was a blockbuster film.

And it was followed by films such as “Shopner Thikana”, “Denmohor”, “Tumi Amar”, “Tomakey Chai”, “Anjuman”, “Priyojon”, “Konyadan”, “Swapner Nayok”, “Swapner Purush”, “Ananda Ashru”, “Ei Ghar Ei Shongshar”, “Sujan Sokhi”, “Prem Juddha”, “Buker Bhetor Agun”, “Swapner Prithibi” and several other smash hits that exceeded the hope of the audiences.

The ailing film industry witnessed a heartthrob romantic hero and welcomed a new era in the romantic film type with his appearance.
