Curtain to Rise on The Salerno Conference on June 24

Virtual conference to celebrate striving Bangladeshi English literature

Something very promising is on its way as The Salerno Conference presents the vibrant literatures of Bangladesh through its upcoming event—a platform to acknowledge Bangladeshi culture and literature.

The 2-day long program titled "The Salerno Conference on Bangladeshi English Novels: From Emergence to Efflorescence'' will hit the floor on 24-25 June 2021.

The central theme of the conference is the efflorescence or blooming of Bangladeshi English novels. Like many other arrangements, this year the Salerno Conference is shifting to the online medium because of the pandemic situation.

A number of writers and scholars from Bangladesh will present and participate in different Plenary and Parallel sessions at the Salerno Conference.

This is an invaluable opportunity for people to listen, learn, talk, appreciate, and celebrate an arena of Bangladeshi Literature that demands for our urgent attention.

The inaugural ceremony will be held at 01:00 PM Bangladeshi time on 24 June 2021. Professor Carmine Pinto, Director of the Doctorate in Literary, Linguistic and Historical Studies of UNISA, and Professor Virgilio D'Antonio, Delegate of the Rector of UNISA will be present as guests among other dignitaries in the inaugural session. Dr. Khan Touseef Osman, Convenor of The Salerno Conference, and Mariano Ciarletta, a PhD Candidate at the University of Salerno will chair the inaugural ceremony.

The Salerno conference will feature several panel sessions dedicated to the space of the nation, transnationalism, trauma, identity and representation. This year’s lively line-up features Professor Fakrul Alam and Professor Kaiser Haq as keynote speakers. Internationally acclaimed Bangladeshi authors like Nadeem Zaman, Arif Anwar, Saad Z. Hossain are set to appear for a vibrant panel discussion with writer and poet Ikhtisad Ahmed, the chair of the session.

A veteran professor of the University of Kashmir, Dr. Lily Want, and the supervisor of the Salerno Conference, Professor Stefan Heinz Maria Nienhaus will add to the glory of the conference with their significant presence in the closing ceremony.

A number of local and international literary figures and researchers from different countries will attend the two-day literary conference with over a dozen sessions. Open for all, the conference is hosted by the Department of Humanistic Studies of Salerno University.
