At least 50 Myanmar junta forces were killed in the last four days as People’s Defense Force groups (PDFs) and ethnic armed organizations (EAOs) continued to attack regime targets across the country.
Incidents were reported in Sagaing, Magwe, Mandalay and Tanintharyi regions and Chin, Shan, Mon and Karen states.
The Irrawaddy has rounded up the following reports of significant attacks from PDFs and the EAOs.
Some military casualty figures could not be independently verified.
Fierce clashes break out in Sagaing
Five regime forces were killed and six others injured in Yinmabin Township, Sagaing Region on Wednesday when the Union Liberation Front (ULF), which comprises 18 resistance groups, clashed with a military unit of 100 troops near Kyauk Kone Village, the resistance group said.
After sustaining losses, the headquarters of the North West Military command based in nearby Monywa town used howitzers to fire four long-range shells at the clash site to help their ground troops.
Six resistance fighters suffered injuries in the clash. The resistance groups also seized three military weapons along with ammunition.
For weeks, the military unit has been stealing logs belonging to civilians from log yards in the area, the PDF group said.
Police station attacked in Mandalay
The Defense Ministry of the civilian National Unity Government (NUG) said three of its People’s Defense Force groups (PDFs) used rocket-propelled grenades to attack the police station in Shwe Pyi Village in Sintgu Township, Mandalay Region on Tuesday.
A shootout continued for some minutes at the police station, killing three police officers including the police chief of the station, said the ministry.
The ministry also claimed 15 junta soldiers were killed in Madaya Township, Mandalay Region on Monday as three local resistance groups jointly used land mines to ambush a military unit of 60 troops raiding a village.
Military unit repeatedly bombed in Magwe
Myaing UAV Fighter, the drone unit of Myaing PDF, said it and six other resistance groups used drones to drop bombs on a military unit and military logistics vehicles taking a rest in a village in Myaing Township, Magwe Region on Thursday morning.
On that evening, the groups dropped five drone bombs on the junta unit and logistics vehicles. Many regime forces are believed to have been killed or injured.
The junta unit and military logistics vehicles transporting rations and ammunition to the junta base in the pro-regime village of Kanni have faced a series of land mine ambushes and drone strikes since Tuesday.
Clash erupts in Magwe’s Saw town
Saw PDF, which forms Gangaw District PDF Battalion 3, said it clashed with regime forces in Saw town, Magwe Region on Tuesday night. A resident suffered injuries in the junta shelling.
The resistance group urged residents to stay away from unexploded ammunition and to stay in bomb shelters when they hear fighting.
Military checkpoint raided again in Tanintharyi
Oak Awe Column Dawei said it and other local resistance groups attacked a Phayar Mae military checkpoint near Maung Mae Shaung Village in Dawei Township, Tanintharyi Region on Thursday, killing two regime forces and injuring three others.
There were no resistance casualties. The military checkpoint has come under frequent attack by resistance groups.
Regime forces killed in mine ambushes in Tanintharyi
The People’s Defense Organization (Tanintharyi Division) said it and other resistance groups triggered land mines to ambush a military vehicle from military Artillery Battalion 306 traveling on the Pyidaungsu road in Tanintharyi Township, Tanintharyi Region on Wednesday.
In the attack, a soldier was killed and three others injured, while their vehicle was destroyed.
The joint resistance groups continued to trigger land mines to ambush a military reinforcement unit heading to the area, killing seven more soldiers.
Junta soldiers killed in drone strikes in Karen
At least four junta troops were killed in Kawkareik Township, Karen State on Tuesday when three resistance groups including the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), the armed wing of the Karen National Union (KNU), conducted drone strikes on a military unit between two villages, said the resistance drone group Saw Dragon Drone Force (SDDF), which joined the attack.
After being bombed, the regime forces responded randomly by firing heavy explosives.
Junta base attacked in Mon
At least 10 regime forces including a junta officer were killed and 15 others injured in Thaton Township, Mon Sate when PDFs and KNLA troops attacked the military base in Pein Nae Taw Village through shelling and drone strikes from Aug. 28 to Sept., 6, said Tabin Shwe Htee Column, which joined the attacks.
The combined group also ambushed junta forces transporting the injured soldiers from the base to another location.
Regime forces killed in resistance raid in Chin
Chinland Defense Force (Matupi) claimed to have killed three junta soldiers when they attacked the entrance gate of military Infantry Battalion 304 on the Matupi-Paletwa road in Matupi Township, Chin State on Monday.
Clashes continue in northern Shan State
Clashes between junta forces and the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) continued in Muse and Kutkai townships, northern Shan State, on Wednesday, said the TNLA.
Casualties on both sides were unknown. Some 34 clashes have occurred in the area since July 23, the TNLA said.
