Summary

A UN official has said there is increasingly little the organisation can do to protect Gazans trying to shelter from the fighting.

"Let's be very clear, there is no place that is safe in Gaza right now," says Thomas White, of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees.

Earlier Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu said there will be no temporary ceasefire with Hamas in Gaza until all Israeli hostages are released.

Israel has struck an ambulance in Gaza it said was being used by Hamas operatives.

The Hamas-run health ministry said Israel had targeted a convoy of ambulances in two different places, including outside the Al-Shifa hospital.

Israel began bombing Gaza after Hamas killed more than 1,400 people in Israel and kidnapped more than 200 others.

The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza says more than 9,000 people have been killed in the Strip since 7 October.
