President Joe Biden and Donald Trump have swept the early Super Tuesday states, according to projections by CBS - making a presidential rematch between them even more likely.
Biden has won Democratic nominating contests in 13 states - plus Iowa, where people voted by post - according to CBS, which is BBC's US partner network.
Trump is projected to have won 10 Republican contests - which would further consolidate his strong lead over Nikki Haley in the overall GOP standings.
However, Trump and Haley are neck-and-neck in the count in Vermont.
Victorious candidates are being awarded delegates - of which they need a certain number to get their party's official nod to run for president.
Immigration and the economy were the key issues for Republican voters questioned in CBS exit polls in Virginia and North Carolina.
