A delegation from Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) led by its director, Sergey Naryshkin, visited Pyongyang on March 25-27, where it held talks on strengthening cooperation amid "intrigues of hostile forces," the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said.
During his stay in Pyongyang, Naryshkin held talks with North Korea’s Minister of State Security Ri Chang-dae. "During the talks, the sides informed each other about their views on the current international and regional situations around the Korean Peninsula and Russia.
They also discussed issues of further strengthening cooperation in response to spying activities and intrigues of hostile forces," the KCNA said.
The talks were held in "a warm and friendly atmosphere." The sides arrived at common opinions on various matters, it added.
On March 26, North Korean Minister of Foreign Economic Affairs Yun Jong Ho left for Moscow.
Bilateral exchanges between Russia and North Korea intensified in the second half of 2023. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited Russia in September. His talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin took place at Russia’s Far Eastern Vostochny spaceport on September 13. In October 2023, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov visited North Korea.
