Briton detained in Bangladesh over double murder: police

LONDON: Authorities in Bangladesh have arrested a British man sought in connection with the shooting deaths of two people in London seven years ago, British police said Sunday.

Ayub Khan, 27, who had been on the most wanted listed of London`s Metropolitan Police, was detained in Dhaka on Thursday over the killing of Amarjit Singh, 52, and his nephew Rajinder Singh, 35, in 2003.

They were gunned down near the hotel they owned in east London, reportedly with a submachine gun following what police believe was a row over parking.

British police said they would seek the extradition of Khan, who is originally from Chigwell, a town just outside London.

"A man believed to be Ayub Khan was arrested on Thursday, August 5 in Dhaka by Bangladeshi authorities," said a police spokesman.

"The arrest was made on behalf of the Metropolitan Police Service. We will now seek the man`s formal extradition to the UK."
