Now, knee contouring is the latest trend in beauty

It's time to bring out your favourite LBD from the closet! With its hemline ending above your knees, you must be ready to flaunt a flawless pair of legs.

But if your slender and toned legs have wobbly, bulging skin on the knees, it's a cause for concern. That's when you realise that all the efforts of eating healthy and killing yourself in the gym have gone in vain. Dermatologist and laser surgeon Dr Apratim Goel says, Your feet and knees take the stress and strain of your day-to-day running around. In addition to that, the gravitational pull draws all the skin fat and soft tissues downwards, which gets compartmentalised and bulges into pockets. Your loose floppy knees, with pockets of fat on the sides and wobbly wrinkly skin in front, makes it impossible to flaunt them.

What is Knee contouring
This is one of the latest techniques that uses monopolar radio frequency with ultrasound to melt the excess fat around the knees, as well as tightens the skin in just a few sessions. This treatment is widely used to control bra fat pad, loose armpits, fat on lower face, double chin, cellulite on thighs and love handles, too. This technology, experts say, is safe, has no downtime and has lasting effects. However, the results of this treatment is visible after three to six months.

How is it done
Dr Vinod Vij, senior cosmetic surgeon, says, During this process, which takes around 45 to 90 minutes, some of the fat is loosened and pushed into the areas under the skin where there is complete lack of underlying soft tissue due to volume loss with age. Dr Goel adds, The radio frequency and ultrasound combination, delivered with temperature controlled unique technology, helps to reduce knobby knees. If the patient is slim and has thin skin over the knees without much localised fat, then the liposuction part of the procedure can be omitted. Vibrational cannulas alone without liposuction can be used to release the skin that is bound to the underlying soft tissues, creating a bunched-up appearance, say experts. It is done in two to five sessions, depending on the age of the person, the overall fat content and skin laxity.

How it works
Mineral oil is applied and the ultrasound and radio frequency probe is used over the target area. It raises the dermal temperature to about 45 degrees, thus breaking the fat cell and shrinking the collagen bundles.
