Jasmine's death won't affect Dhaka-Washington relations: FM

Foreign minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has said that Sultana Jasmine’s death in the custody of the Rapid Action Battalion will not affect Dhaka-Washington relations.

He made this comment today (March 29) while replying to a question of a journalist.

When asked whether Jasmine's death in RAB's custody will create any impact on Dhaka's relationship with Washington, the minister said of course not.

"Incidents like this are happening every day in America. A child was killed at school this week. Is the relationship with someone getting worse there? Such events can happen suddenly,' he added.

“I came to know about the incident through the newspaper. I don't know the truth. Ministry of Home Affairs and RAB can say, he added.

Different rights organisations expressed anger and grave concern at the death of Jasmine in RAB custody on March 24.

The High Court also ordered officials to submit the post-mortem examination report on Jasmine who died in the custody of the RAB in Nagaon.

Jasmine was an office assistant at the land office in Chandipur union under the Sadar Upazila.
