Drug peddlers in Narayanganj's Rupganj have locked 25 residential houses and chopped a leader of Swechchha Sebok League in retaliation for ‘seizing drug items’.

Local people came under attack after the seizure of 10 cartons of beer of drug traders Shomsher and Sahabuddin at Chanpara slum in Kayetpara union under Rupganj on Wednesday (March 29).

According to sources, the drug peddlers have established a reign of terror in the area for a decade under the direct patronisation of the local MP.

Mamun Hossain, in charge of Chanpara Police Outpost confirmed the matter.

Police rushed to the spot and unlocked the houses, he said, adding "We will take action if anyone registers a formal complaint.”
