132 Bangladeshi arrested in Malaysia

A total of 265 foreign individuals, including 132 Bangladeshis, were arrested by the Immigration Department in Malaysia for allegedly violating the terms of their pass.

In one of the raids known as “Ops Mahir”, Johor Immigration director Baharuddin Tahir said 206 arrests were made at a construction site in Pasir Gudang on Friday morning.

“The operation was conducted based on tip-offs from the public. A total of 530 foreigners and locals were inspected.

“Out of the number, 206 foreigners were arrested for violating their pass to enter the country,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Baharuddin said those nabbed consisted of 132 men from Bangladesh, China (51), Myanmar (10), Pakistan (six), Indonesia (three), and Vietnam (two).Another two of those caught were women from China.

Their ages ranged from 18 to 61.

“We have also arrested a Malaysian to help with the investigation. “He said the raid was conducted by 90 enforcement officers from the Immigration Department. The case is being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act for entering the country without valid travel documents and overstaying.

It is also being investigated under Rule 17(b) and Rule 11(7)(a) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 for violating the requirement of their visit pass, among others.As for the Malaysian man, he is being investigated under Section 56(1)(d) of the Immigration Act for harbouring illegal immigrants.
