Former attorney general AJ Mohammad Ali passes away

Former attorney general AJ Mohammad Ali has died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Singapore.  

Ali, also an advisory council member of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, breathed his last at 2:45 pm (Bangladesh time) on Thursday.

BNP Legal Affairs Secretary Barrister Kaiser Kamal confirmed this information today. 

The family sources said Ali was suffering from several old age complications.  

He left behind a son, a daughter, his wife, and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.   

Ali served as the 12th Attorney General of Bangladesh, from 2005 to 2007.

His father MH Khandaker was the first Attorney General of Bangladesh.

Ali was enrolled to practice in the High Court in 1980 and in the Appellate Division in 1985.

He was appointed as Additional Attorney General on 23 October 2001 and the Attorney General on 30 April 2005.

He resigned from the position on 24 January 2007.

Ali served as the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association and Bangladesh Bar Council's Executive Committee Chairman.

Ali served as the lawyer of former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Begum Khaleda Zia for the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
