HC postpones Jhenaidah-1 by-polls

The High Court (HC) today (May 6) postponed Jhenaidah-1 by-polls scheduled to be held on June 5.

A High Court bench of Justice Md Zakir Hossain passed the order.

The Jhenaidah-1 constituency fell vacant when parliamentarian Abdul Hyee, also the president of the district unit Awami League, died on 16 March while undergoing treatment at Bumrungrad Hospital in Thailand.

Md Nayeb Ali Joardar, a member of the district unit Awami League, was nominated by the party to contest the by-polls.

On 23 April, the Election Commission announced the schedule for the by-election.
