‘Bangla Blocked’ prog against quota system from tomorrow

The protesting students have announced a ‘Bangla Blocked’ programme slated to begin tomorrow to reinforce their demand for the restoration of the circular that abolished the quota system in public jobs in 2018.

Nahid Islam, coordinator of the ‘Anti-Discrimination Student Movement’, announced the programme during a demonstration held at the Shahbagh intersection in Dhaka to press home their demand.

The Bangla Blocked programme will begin at the Shahbagh intersection around 3 pm and students and job seekers will also join the programme to be held other locations, including Science Lab intersection, Chankharpool, Nilkhet, Motijheel and different strategic intersections.

Thousands of Dhaka University (DU) students took to the streets on July 1, protesting the restoration of the quota system in the government jobs and since then, the protest spread out all public and private universities across the country.

Meanwhile, on June 5, 2024, the High Court declared illegal the government decision that in 2018 cancelled the 30 percent quota system for the freedom fighters' children in the civil service of ninth to 13th grades.
