Throat-slit bodies of mother, daughter found in Cox’s Bazar

A mother and her young daughter were brutally murdered by slitting their throats in Cox’s Bazar’s Kutubdia on Friday (Oct 25).

The incident occurred around 2 pm in the Shanti Bazar area of Ali Akbar Dale Union.

The victims have been identified as Runa Akter, 35, wife of Nurul Absar, and their daughter, Zaria Akter, 5, residents of the area.

Kutubdia Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC), Md. Arman Hossain, confirmed the matter.

He said that Nurul Absar had left home for Friday prayers at the local mosque. Upon returning, he found the house strangely quiet. Later, he checked the kitchen, where he discovered his wife and daughter lying lifeless on the floor, covered in blood. Realizing they were dead, he called for help.

According to OC Hossain, a police team was immediately dispatched to the scene to recover the bodies. "Both victims bore sharp weapon injuries on their necks, and it appears they were killed while the family was at prayer,"

The officer noted. The perpetrators likely fled soon after committing the crime.

The OC further mentioned that the motive behind the murder is still unclear, and police are actively investigating to identify and apprehend those involved.

The bodies have been sent to the Cox's Bazar District Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, added the OC.
