The caretaker government has stabilized the country and improved law and order significantly in its first five months, said Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam in an exclusive interview with Banglanews24.com on Thursday (Jan 2).
Shafiqul Alam highlighted that the interim administration inherited a fragile economy, weak institutions, and disrupted governance. However, substantial progress has been made, including resurgence in exports and an increase in foreign reserves.
He rated the government's performance at 90% success, saying, “We have overcome a challenging phase and restored stability.”
On law and order, Shafiqul underscored improvements but acknowledged room for further progress.
“We aim for a crime-free environment, but there is still work to do,” he said.

Regarding elections, Shafiqul said that the timeline depends on political consensus. The government is working on reforms, with six commissions focusing on key changes. Reports from these commissions are expected by mid-January, after which dialogues with political parties will follow.
Addressing concerns about potential political clashes, he dismissed the idea, saying, “Differences in opinion are natural in democracy. Constructive debates lead to better outcomes.”
The press secretary also spoke about the caretaker government’s focus on ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections, highlighting the importance of reaching a national consensus on constitutional and reform issues.
