Boy missing in Sariatpur trawler capsize

SARIATPUR: A minor boy went missing as an overcrowded trawler capsized in the Padma River in Jajira upazila Tuesday morning.

The missing was identified as Nahid, 8, son of Shahed Fakir of Bilashpur village in the upazila.

Witnesses said, the trawler, carrying hundreds of passengers, capsized when a launch hit it near Mangal Majhirghat at around 9am Tuesday.

All passengers but Nahid managed to swim ashore.

Nahid’s sister Afiza, 10, was rescued in a critical condition and rushed to Jajira Upazila Health Complex.

Jajira upazila Nirbahi Officer Bhikharuddowla Chowdhury told banglanews24.com.bd the rescue operation is on.

“The accident occurred for carrying more passengers than its capacity," he said.
