Withdraw hartal, come for talks

DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also ruling Awami League president, on Sunday urged Opposition Leader Khaleda Zia to withdraw hartal and the door is open for talks.

“Withdraw hartal and the door is open for talks,” she said.

The premier came up with the plea while addressing a grand rally organized, marking the Jail Killing Day, by Dhaka City Awami League at Suhrawardy Udyan in the afternoon.

Sheikh Hasina also alleged that president Ziaur Rahman had patronized the anti-liberation forces and brought them in power.

She also alleged that Opposition Leader Khaleda let loose the activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Hefajat-e-Islam and they burnt hundreds of Holy Quran.

She also said, on November 3, a vested quarter killed the fours national four leaders in 1975. But President Ziaur Rahman awarded the killers and made minister and top bureaucrat of the country.

She added: “On the other hand General Zia did not permit me to go my house after the killing of my father.”

PM also said “When we started Liberation War trial Khaleda Zia opposing it and tried to save them. It is so regrettable.”

BNP-Jamaat was involved in the then BDR carnage. Most of the killed army officers were the loyal of Awami League, she claimed.

“I called BNP chairperson to hold in dialogue and urged to withdraw hartal but she refused.”

Khaleda has killed at least 20 people across the country in the name of hartal and again called hartal from Monday.

JSC and JDC examinations will be affected for her hartal. It will hamper total education system.

Regarding the caretaker government, she criticized the then military-backed 1/11 government for their misrule.

Deputy Leader of the Parliament Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Presidium Members Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed and Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury were among others present at the rally.
