US for fair polls in Bangladesh

DHAKA: Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific, US Congressman Steve Chabot said that United States want to see a free and fair election in Bangladesh next.

He made the assertion while called on opposition BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia at her residence on Tuesday evening.

Urging main two political parties of Bangladesh to reach a consensus, Steve Chabot also said that US never support violence centering election.

BNP vice chairman Shamsher Mabin Chowdhury said about the meeting, “Khaleda Zia informed US Congressman that BNP is ready for dialogue if ruling party responses positively.”

Among others, Khaleda Zia’s press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan was also present in the meeting.
