CEC to seek army in JS polls

DHAKA: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed on Wednesday said the election commission would seek the assistance of army for holding the upcoming general elections in free and manner.

The CEC came up with the assertion while talking to journalists at Election Commission Secretariat.

He said, “All the general elections in the country were held with the help of the army since 1973 and it is tough for the existing law enforcement bodies to hold polls at all 300 seats in a single day.”

While talking about current Representation of the People (Amendment) Order, he said, “Though there is no definition about army as a low enforcing agency in RPO but it is possible to seek their help during the polls.”
