EC playing ‘hide and seek’ on polls

DHAKA: Opposition BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday alleged that the Election Commission (EC) is playing hide and seek over the next general polls.

The Election Commission is playing hide and seek over elections as it does not announce polls schedule. The government does not make clear about the polls-time government,” he said.

The spokesperson for the party came up with the allegation while talking to journalists in a press conference at BNP Nayapaltan office in the afternoon.

He said, “The government wants to capture power by manipulating polls. It is not possible to hold free and fair election under the incumbent election commission.”

Criticizing former chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque, he said, “He (Khairul Haque) delivered the verdict of amending constitution only to make the incumbent government happy.”

Mirza Fakhrul also alleged the government tortured and repressed opposition men even in the last day of hartal by police, RAB and BGB personnel.
