DHAKA: Two separate Dhaka courts on Wednesday placed former president of Chhatra Dal Sultan Salahuddin Tuku on a two-day fresh remand and Habibur Rashid Habib, general secretary of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, on a four-day remand.

Tuku is accused in a case filed with Paltan Thana under vandalism and explosives Act and Habib was placed to remand in two different cases filed with Paltan and Shahbagh Thanas for Hefajat-e-Islam incident on May 5.

Rejecting bail plea, Metropolitan Magistrate MA Salam passed the order against Tuku when police produced him before the court with 37-day remand plea.

The court also sent five top BNP leaders to remand, which was later stayed by the High Court, in the case.

On November 14, the CMM court placed Tuku to 20-day remand in five cases.

Besides, Metropolitan Magistrate Kesab Roy Chowdhury passed the remand order against Habib when Paltan and Shahbagh Thana police produced him before the court with a 37-day remand plea.

The court also ordered to interrogate him at the jail gate in other two cases.

On November 18, the same court placed Habib on one-day remand in an arson case filed with Ramna Thana.

Law enforcers arrested Tuku from in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan office on October 21 while a team of DB Police arrested Habib from his Santinagar residence on November 17.
