BNP man killed in Chapai clash

CHAPAINAWABGANJ: A BNP activist was killed as Awami League supporters blasted cocktail at Shibganj upazila of the district on Monday.

After the incident, local administration imposed section 144 in the upazila to avert further clash.

The deceased was identified as Rubel, a driver by profession and BNP activist.

Witness said supporters of Awami League nomination ticket winner for Chapainawabganj-1 constituency Golam Rabbani brought out a procession at Pukuria of Kansat union under Shibganj upazila.

At one stage, leaders and activists of 18-party obstructed in the procession triggering a fierce clash between them.

Awami League supporters blasted several cocktails which injured 8-10 BNP men.

The injured were rushed to upazila hospital where Rubel succumbed to his injuries on way.

Besides, Bangladesh Chhatra Shibir claimed that the two activists of 18-party alliance were killed as Awami League supporters hurled cocktails at their rally.
