Blockade underway for day-5

DHAKA: The fifth day of the countrywide 131-hour road-rail-waterway blockade, enforced by the BNP-led 18-party alliance, is progressing amid disruption of rail services in several districts.

Meanwhile, due to the blockade, the rail and road communications around the country are being seriously disrupted.

The rail services on Dhaka-Khulna, Dhaka-Chandpur routes remained suspended due to derailments of Nokshikanta Express and Meghna Express.

The five compartments of Nokshikanta Express and three compartments of Meghna Express as blockaders uprooted rail tracks in Phultola upazila of Khulna and Shahtoli station area of Chandkpur on Wednesday morning.

On the other hand, Chhatra Shibir activists created blockade in capital`s Basabo’s area and blasted six cocktails in support of blockade at around 7:30am.

Besides, Chhatra Dal men blasted eight cocktails in city’s Mirpur area at around 7:30am.

Police, however, detained four Chhatra Dal men from the spot.

4th day’s blockade violence

At least nine people were killed and scores injured in separate violence across the country on Tuesday, the fourth day of blockade enforced by BNP-led 18-party alliance.

Of the nine, six were activists of BNP-Jamaat alliance of Satkhira, Chandpur, Noakhali and Chittagong, one Jubo League activist of Satkhira and rests two of Patuakhali and Chittagong are general people.


3rd day’s blockade violence

Three BNP men, including two Jubo Dal leaders, were killed in separate violence across the country during blockade enforced by 18-party alliance on Monday.


2nd day’s blockade violence

Miscreants killed a Jubo Dal leader in Daudkandi Upazila of Comilla district on Sunday night.

More than hundreds of 18-party leaders and activists including law enforcing personnel were injured

1st day’s blockade violence

Five people including an activist of Chhatra Shibir, an activist of Jubo Dal and three pedestrians were killed in separate violence in Dhaka, Jhenidah, Pabna, Chittagong and Bogra on Saturday, the first day of 72-hour blockade.

The initially declared 72-hour blockade has been extended by another 59 hours till Thursday evening.

So, the blockade, started from 6:00am Monday to press home their demand for non-party caretaker government during the polls-time, cancellation of the polls-schedule and release of the top BNP leaders, will continue till 5:00pm Thursday.
