Ershad rejects threat to suicide

DHAKA: Jatiyo Party chairman, also former president HM Ershad rejected the threat to commit suicide.

On Wednesday midnight HM Ershad threatened that he would shoot himself to death if any attempt is made to arrest him.

Over the matter, Ershad told journalists on Friday, “It is not true that I will commit suicide. I am former president of the country, also chairman of a political party. After returning home declaring to boycott next election, I saw hundreds of law enforcers surrounding my house. I apprehended that they would take me to any unknown place.”

He came up with the observation while talking to journalists in front of his residence President Park at capital’s Baridhara at 11:00am Friday.

He also said that the country would not change whether Awami League or BNP assumed power. People would be suffered and so, a permanent change is necessary.

On Wednesday night during a television interview conducted inside his home, Ershad said: “I have loaded four pistols and I`ve told the government that if they play any tricks with me, I will kill myself.”

“I will die before the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) or the police can lay a finger on me,” he said, before making a trigger-pulling gesture towards his head.
